Jan ‘25 - LA Fires
Evacuations
We are a few weeks into the new year and LA has experienced it’s most costly fire in history. Sol has been evacuated 2x in the past 3 months. As I write this, we are in a hotel room in San Diego. We experienced the 80 mph winds at our home in Malibu (the house was literally shaking). Our neighbor, who typically stays to fight the fires, came to our door at 10 pm and said he was getting out of there. Palisades, at this time, was getting absolutely destroyed. We could see the flames driving down our canyon road at 10.30 pm. I never thought it could get that out of control. Absolutely devastating. That night, we got turned away for 7 hotels and ended up in Venice on the pull out of our friend’s. We ended up jumping around different places that week. Thank you Tess, Cole, Lyss, Mary, and Grayden for opening your homes.
I feel grateful for all the amazing people in our lives offering to help and feel so fortunate our home is OK (our neighborhood almost caught fire due to an arsonists). I feel terrible for the friends and thousands of people that have lost their homes. We know 7 people who have lost all their possessions. I spoke with a friend today on the phone, Tejas, who lost his home. He talked about how he misses how own things…the little things. His tooth brush, his books, couch, and sentimental things. Things and possessions are also memories. Really heartbreaking.
